Description

Intact Victorian red oak staircase built in 1905 from virgin forest--this wood is very hard. Complete with original finish, never been painted. Solid oak, with 18 stairs that rise to a height of 10-1/2 feet. The staircase fits in a 7' x 10' space. Treads are 10-1/2" x 39-1/2", risers are  7", Newel is cylindrical with a crown trim, it has a vertical crack that adds to its antiquity. Stinger has a sun ray design under each tread. Baluster are unbroken and in excellent condition. Hand rail has a unique curve at the landing. The right angle of the handrail at the top of the stairs was removed when the staircase was walled off to convert the house to apartments some 20 years ago but it is present and in good shape.
