The City of Russell is seeking professional and community-oriented individuals for a full-time Public Works Mechanic. Applicants must have five years of mechanical repair experience, or Vocational-technical training may be substituted for prior experience. Limited tools provided by the city, hand tools and personal equipment must be furnished by the employee.

Under the supervision of the Street Superintendent, the Public Works Mechanic will be responsible for all mechanical repair and maintenance repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment for all the city departments. This position is subject to call outside of regular working hours. Limited tools provided by the city, hand tools and personal equipment must be furnished by the employee.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Five years’ mechanical repair experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Applicants must posses knowledge in small engine repairs, the ability to learn the operations of all city vehicles and equipment repairs, knowledge of ARC, MIC and Acetylene welding, along with fabrication skills. Ability to learn operations of all city vehicles and equipment for repairs. Possession of, or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL driver’s license, with air brake endorsement, tanker endorsement would also be preferred within 1 year of hire. Applicants may reside outside of the city, subject to response times as administratively determined and required for each department. Pre-employment background checks, drug screening and job placement assessment are required. The salary will be dependent on qualifications.
