The City of La Crosse is accepting applications for an entry level Street Department Employee.
Position Summary:
This position is under the supervision of the street department superintendent. This position operates all heavy equipment for repairs, maintenance, and construction of city streets. This employee also serves as the mechanic for the department. Strong communication and mechanical skills are required.
Essential Functions:
Operates all heavy equipment including loaders, graders, fork lifts and backhoes;
Performs welding duties as needed;
Serves on call as needed;
Serves as the mechanic for the department;
Repairs and maintains all departmental equipment;
Performs street repairs as needed;
Performs street sweeping duties as needed;
Maintains safety at work site;
Provides snow and ice removal;
Maintains water distribution and sewer lines;
Maintains city’s sewer plant;
Reads electric and water meters.
Marginal Functions:
Assists other departments as needed;
Performs mowing duties as needed;
Swimming pool maintenance;
Assists with animal control;
Performs other related duties as deemed necessary.
