THIS IS A FULLY-CLOTHED ACTIVITY! 

WHAT: An activity where participants are challenged to complete 1 mile (walking or running) every day over several weeks.

WHEN: Black Friday (11/229/2024) - New Year’s Day (01/01/2025)

WHERE: THIS IS A VIRTUAL CHALLENGE, COMPLETED ON YOUR OWN AT YOUR OWN CONVENIENCE! Mileage can be completed anywhere! But participants get a special bonus if they complete the miles at Meade State Park.

WHY: Connect people through a common activity, stay motivated and healthy during the holiday season and encourage visitation at Meade State Park during the off season.

HOW: Run/walk at least ONE dedicated mile every day between Black Friday and New Year’s Day. Mileage can be tracked on any activity tracking app (Garmin, Strava, Fitbit, Apple, RunKeep, etc.) or on pencil/paper (paper tracking forms are available for participants upon request.)

ANYONE can participate and ANYONE can win prizes!

For every day you complete one mile (or more), you will be entered into a drawing for some great prizes!

If you miss a day... (or two... or three...)

IT IS OKAY TO MISS A DAY! You will not be "kicked out" of the challenge and you will not be publicly shamed. This is a FREE, FUN event and we know the holidays are busy! Even if you miss a few days, you are still eligible to win drawing prizes for the daily miles you DO complete, and you can still win the award for "Highest Mileage" even if you miss a day or two.

Anytime you complete your mileage at Meade State Park, you earn DOUBLE entry into the prize drawing. Earn TRIPLE entry by completing miles on "Specialty Days"

Participants who complete their daily mile (or more) at Meade State Park automatically earn DOUBLE entry into the random chance prize drawings. Participants earn TRIPLE entry into the random chance prize drawings by completing the following challenges on specific days:

NOV. 29 - BLACK FRIDAY: Earn TRIPLE entry if completing 1 mile (or more) at Meade State Park

DEC. 2 - NATIONAL MUTT DAY: Earn DOUBLE entry if you complete 1 mile (or more) with your dog from any location. Earn TRIPLE entry if you complete the mileage with your dog at Meade State Park.

DEC. 11 - International Mountain Day: Kansas is known for being "flat as pancake" but we still have some big hills! Earn DOUBLE entry if you complete 1 mile (or more) while including a large uphill (open to personal interpretation) climb. Earn TRIPLE entry if you complete 1 mile (or more) at Meade State Park AND climb up the "big hill" by the park's spillway. *Participants must submit a photo of themselves after climbing up their "big hill."  Contact us if you have any questions about the location of the "big hill" at Meade State Park.

DEC. 20 - Ugly Sweater Day: Earn DOUBLE entry if you complete 1 mile (or more) while wearing an ugly Christmas sweater. Earn TRIPLE entry if you complete the mileage while wearing an ugly Christmas sweater at Meade State Park.

PICK ONE OF THE FOLLOWING DAYS: DEC. 24, DEC. 25, DEC. 26 - CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS: Earn TRIPLE entry when you complete 1 mile (or more) at Meade State Park on any one of these days. (You can only earn TRIPLE entry on ONE of the dates.)

DEC. 28 - CALL A FRIEND DAY: Earn DOUBLE entry when you complete 1 mile (or more) with a friend from any location. Earn TRIPLE entry when you complete 1 mile (or more) with a friend at Meade State Park.

DEC. 29 - Still Need to Do Day: Hopefully you have all completed your 2024 "To-Do" lists. If not, knock out those last minute projects and spend some time at Meade State Park! Earn TRIPLE entry by completing 1 mile (or more) at Meade State Park.

JAN. 1 - FIRST DAY HIKE: Earn TRIPLE entry by coming out and participating in the First Day Hike at Meade State Park.

YOU MAY BE ASKED TO PROVIDE PROOF OF PARTICIPATION IN SPECIALTY DAYS! Take photos of yourself and your friends to show everyone you put in the work!

COMPLETE the STREAK!

Those that complete one mile every day from Nov. 29 - Jan. 1 (regardless of location completed at) will earn a coveted "Run/Walk Streak" T-Shirt and the ability to claim they "Completed the Streak!"

We want to make tracking your hard-earned miles simple by allowing you to do it any way you like! We know the date, the distance, the location you completed your mile in and if you participated in any specialty days. (Locations do NOT have to be overly specific.) At the end of the challenge, you can turn in your mileage either via email or in-person at the park office.

PDF tracking sheets will be sent out to all registrants via e-mail as a courtesy.
