You are looking at one of the holy grails of the Colt AR collector world. It is a LE6940 series but a PISTON driven gun instead of direct impingement. Called the “LE6940p.” They were Colt’s entry into the SCAR program. There was less than 2000 of them made and most of them went to Government agencies. The one i have came from the Department of Energy. It was put into service in December 2011, and used in defense of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear plant in Avila Beach California. All of their 6940p’s were then retired from service around 2022. It is also from the time before Colt QC started slipping. The lower is rollmarked, not engraved. It says “piston carbine” and serial number is just over 1000. So just over half way through the total production number of the guns. It is used, with obvious signs of handling and wear but the internals look great with a very nice bore. Probably spent most of its life just being carried around on duty. It has a rack number "53" laser engraved into the bottom of the trigger guard that was done by the DOE. It does have the matech rear sight, but nothing else is included. Asking $3500. Located in Wichita. More photos available upon request.
