Key Responsibilities: 

  • Hands-On Construction: Assist in the construction of work orders using hand tools and operating construction equipment. Be a key player in completing projects by splicing and pulling cables to the appropriate locations. 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Cable Installation: Work alongside the team to install and splice fiber cables using digging and trenching equipment, bucket trucks, and other construction tools. Operate various cable installation equipment to fulfill work orders. Maintain and repair buried and aerial plant, and associated equipment. 
  • Right-of-Way Custodian: Take charge of maintaining the right-of-way and ensure all surfaces are restored and cleaned once the construction work is completed. 
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, stocking, and cleaning of service vehicles and construction equipment to keep everything in top-notch condition. 
  • Versatile Team Player: Engage in miscellaneous duties as assigned by management. Participate in regular reviews with the supervisor and accept direction with a positive attitude. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Industry Insight: Knowledge of the communications industry and basic construction practices is a plus. 
  • Communication Expertise: Skill in oral and written communication to effectively interact with team members and business contacts. 
  • Analytical Thinker: Ability to think analytically and solve problems efficiently. 
  • Organization and Prioritization: Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and handling multiple work assignments effectively. 
  • Customer-Centric Approach: Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. 
  • Safety First: Knowledge of Company safety policies and procedures to ensure a secure work environment. 
  • Regulatory Know-How: Familiarity with RUS codes and regulations and construction practices is an asset. 
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, blueprints, schematics, staking sheets, and operating/maintenance instruction manuals. 
  • Commercial Driver's License: Ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license. Ability to obtain CDL within 6 months of employment.
  • Telecom Background: Knowledge of REA required grounding procedures and basic installation practices. Prior telecommunications experience is beneficial. 
  • Physical Prowess: Ability to kneel, crawl, and stoop to repair equipment in cramped areas. 

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must be 18 years of age or older. 
  • Three months of construction experience and familiarity with construction equipment. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. 
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements.
