The Rush County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. This dedicated individual will be joining a community that supports law enforcement and will have the opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves. The Rush County Sheriff’s Office provides professional law enforcement services to the citizens of Rush County. Deputies are issued: Uniforms (with outer vest carriers), all duty gear, boots, weapons, body cameras, and a take-home vehicle. All equipment required to perform the duties is provided by the Rush County Sheriff’s Office. The leadership have made great efforts to take care of our “family”, providing extra equipment to each Deputy Sheriff, to include a ballistic helmet, mounted PVS-14 white phosphor night vision, IR laser/illuminator mounted on rifle, IFAK, AED, jumpstart kit, as well as each shift having access to the DJI M30T (thermal, spotlight, speaker mounted) drone, a FLIR thermal monocular or spotlight mounted FLIR, and ballistic shields. This is an ongoing effort to continue to provide equipment for our team to protect them, assist in their duties, and to protect members in our community.
Position type: Full Time
Salary: Starting salary minimum $20.68 per hour upon certification, negotiable depending on experience. Deputies also have guaranteed overtime each pay period.
Minimum Qualifications:
-No criminal history
-No Brady/Giglio issues
-Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be at least 21 years of age
-Possess at least a high school diploma or GED
-Possess a valid driver’s license
-Must be or become a resident of Rush County upon employment
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.
- Enforce Federal and State laws, including motor vehicle laws and county resolutions
- Perform police patrol tours of duty, protecting persons and property, while preventing crime
- Investigate all complaints assigned to her/him, and continuing follow up to finish the investigation
- Investigate accidents, including diagramming the scene, taking photographs, collecting and preserving evidence, providing emergency first aid whenever necessary
- Keep records and write complete, accurate and concise reports
- Serve civil process as directed
- Direct traffic and perform law enforcement duties at special events
- be willing to assist in community policing outreach programs in our community
