Antique Mason’s 1858 Fruit Canning Jar with Maltese Cross Symbol.
Wonderful Rare Find. 1858 aqua-blue quart size fruit jar. No Lid.
This jar is known as the Maltese Cross symbol jar made by, Hero Glass Works / Hero Fruit Jar Company, of Philadelphia, PA. The base of this jar is marked with “PAT NOV 26 67” (Patented November 26, 1867). The rim of the jar has a ground edge which was a normal manufacturing process which also helps date the jar to between the 1860s to 1870s
The jar is light blue in color and has bubbles and waves in the glass - very typical for the 1880s.
Measures, 7 ½” tall, 3 ¾” diameter at base.
Marked, Mason’s Patent Nov 30th, 1858.
Condition, very good with no cracks, has a couple flea bite chips on rim, glass is foggy in spots.
