Summary
Responsible for administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the physical therapist. Administers treatments and physical agents as directed upon completion of evaluation by the physical therapist. The PTA will assist with the restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The PTA participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains quality assurance activities, and participates in performance improvement initiatives. Participates in all infection control, department training, and organization-wide programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides treatment as directed by the PT while adhering to standards of physical medicine practice.
Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effects and discuss observations with the PT.
Perform an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy prescribed including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and the general patient population.
Assists with the formulation of the treatment plan based upon the needs and assesses the effectiveness, includes family/caregivers in the plan as appropriate, keeping the physical therapist apprised of conclusions.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses the psychosocial needs of patients and families.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
Maintains patient electronic health records in accordance with current standards and policies.
Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
Assists in ordering supplies, in-service training, new hire orientation back safety training, and other educational programs as needed.
Participates in infection control, departmental training, and QA/PI activities.
