Description

1998 Yamaha Exciter Jet Boat We have owned this boat for 5 years and have had a lot of fun in it. As you can see, the seats are in rough shape, but that didn't affect us much - just doesn't look as good. This has a 3 cylinder, 2 stroke engine that is rated at 135 hp. I believe it is the same engine that is in many jet skis/waverunners/etc. So, it does not have a lot of power, but is great for pulling kneeboards, tubes, and trolling around the lake. We have fished out of it some and have used it for the above mentioned water sports. It has a newer impeller that I installed on it two years ago. Also has had a new bendix installed this spring. We took it to Wilson Lake and used it to boat all around the lake and we take it all around Cheney. It has two issues: (1) If it sits for too long (12 hours or so), I usually start it with a quick spray of starter fluid because the fuel takes too long to get from the tank to the carbs. After the initial start, on starter fluid, which I usually do at home, it starts up without the fluid every time. (2) When you run the engine hard for 4 or 5 minutes, there is a noticeable drop in power. The engine doesn't die, but there is less power produced and the speed of the boat drops. If you idle for a little bit, or shut the engine off for a little bit, it comes back with full power. It seems that something heat related is going on. My guess would be plug wires, but I have not tried that yet. It usually worked out that when we were changing kids on the tube, I shut the boat off, and that worked for cooling it. The last time we had it out, we put in at the dam at Cheney and took it all the way to the bluffs, only the last little bit did the engine have that drop in power. I trust the boat to always start and get us where we need to go - but there is that issue. This jet boat is a little different to operate than an ordinary outboard and I can help the buyer with all the little tricks/tips that I have learned about this boat. This boat seats 5 Trailer, lights, and trailer tires are in good condition This boat makes for great, affordable, family fun. We would love to keep it ourselves, but circumstances make selling it a wise choice for us, we believe. Please ask any questions.
