JEM Farms has a two year old full jersey nurse cow available for consideration. She just freshened 3/21/23. Currently she is producing 6 gallons a day and is feeding 3 big bull calves for me. With prices on cattle these days you have to get creative if you want to start out in this industry. At farmers and ranchers in Salina Kansas on their special cow sale heifer pairs were bringing upwards of 2950 a piece!! I have a very special opportunity for you all….Izzy had the ability to feed 3-4 calves for you at the same cost or even lower than a single heifer pair. She has taken every calf I introduced to her without being tied up or hobbles. All I do is put grain in front of her and guide calves to her or open the gate for everyone to eat. I leave them alone for 30 minutes while I milk my other cows and by the time I come back all the calves are full and milk drunk and she is patiently waiting for hay. She has had all the works and is ready for a season of growing massive calves for you. She has been vaccinated with Bar-vac 7, Triangle 10, and dewormed with ivermectin. She has never had a halter on until I got her. She has also never really had much human interaction so she is warming up to people and giving to pressure a lot easier. I tie her up for a few hours a day and brush her. She’s been doing a of better. You could turn into a heck of a milk cow as well with more time and human interaction! I am selling my milk for 5.50 a gallon and almost completely sold out in one day. That’s 33 dollars a day she would profit in just milk or save yourself 750 dollars in milk replacer and feed out calves that are on some fat milk with higher protein than milk replacer. She would be able to raise multiple sets of calves for you as well. If it was me I would put calves on her now. Breed her ai in two months to a registered jersey bull with female sexed semen to get a 500 dollar calf out of her and then raise two more sets of bull calves off her and have some amazing calves to sell in the fall or keep them into spring and get that 2.75 a pound! She will pay herself off in a matter of a few months. She has a gorgeous bag and for her first lactation at 6 gallons a day already she will only increase! She had not hit her peak lactation yet as well as that comes in a few more weeks. I will keep three bull calves on her that can go with her as a group. One is a Charolais cross 3.5 weeks old already and getting huge, one red angus bull calf already weighing 87 pounds at birth that is a week old, and a black angus bull calf that is two weeks old. All of them have been vaccinated with Inforce 3, Bose, and enroflex. I am also pulling 5 angus calves tomorrow so if you like to do all angus you can switch out calves and do this as well as well as add another one to make it four. I will have calves available all year long like I have for the past 5 years and when you are ready for the next four i will have them for you!
