1980 IRONHEAD SPORTSTER XLH STREET LEGAL DRAG RACE CAFE BIKE
This is a one-off custom built machine, you will never see another one like it. Half drag bike, half cafe racer, 100% cool. All of the "engine turning" on the aluminum parts is real...Done by hand, no stickers here. Custom FUNTIONAL pieces are everywhere. Aluminum was used throughout the bike for weight reduction. This machine weighs in at around 360 lbs. The horsepower to weight ratio is awesome. It's a street legal "antique" 11 second track machine. I believe it could be a 10 second machine with some track time & the right rider. The bike has "track wear" from the strip, It's no show queen. It's been ran over & over again at the strip as well as left rubber all over the city streets, but it still looks incredible. The color is simple and effective, VHT burnt copper high temp engine enamel paint. Find it at your local parts store. This was done on purpose because if you have ever raced you know things happen at the track, and touch-up is as simple as a spray can away. Everyone always ask about the cool copper paint, and when you tell them what it is they can't believe it. Here's a partial list of some of the details, but really we don't have enough time and the pictures speak for themselves.
FRAME & FRONT END:
First off the frame has been highly modified with DOM tubing to accomodate the air for the push button air shifter, but all of the factory numbers are still intact on the neck. A custom built DOM hardtail section was added to lower the bike to the right stance. Factory 35mm tubes were shortened and the factory lowers were hand shaved, & smoothed & polished to perfection.
WHEELS & TIRES:
The wheels are custom made 17" configurations for the use of sportbike tires. Custom stainless Buchanan spokes were used to lace the aluminum rim strips to the softail style hubs. The rear wheel is 4.25 rim strip with a 160/60-17 Shinko Stealth tire. The front is a 2.50 rim strip with a 100/80-17 Avon Roadrider tire. This combination gives the bike a perfect aggressive look and stance.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION:
The engine is incredible. S&S 4 5/8 rotating assemble giving the engine 74". The pistons are custom made Ross forged units to give the assembly a TRUE liquid tested 11.5:1 compression ratio, but this engine runs off of 91 octane thanks to the dual plugged heads with compression releases, multi-spark electronic ignition, and the efficient piston design. The oil system has been modified to copy the Harley XR1000 racing oil evacuation design. Black diamond valves were used in the flowed heads as well as custom roller rockers from Baisley performance. The cam chest contains a set of Andrews "BV" cams... This thing "thumps" when running. An S&S "B" carb with a Thunderjet kit was used to supply fuel.
The transmission is full of Andrews shafts and gears with a billet heavy duty trap door for the DRY 117 tooth belt drive primary setup with a Bandit Superclutch to handle the power.
I could go on & on. Message me with questions, I will answer when available.
