I bought this 4Runner because I always wanted one with the 5-speed. The 3.4 V6 had a bad lower end. I replaced the engine with a salvage yard engine but it turned out that it has either a blown head gasket or cracked head. It smokes unbelievably bad. I do not have the heart to do an engine swap all over again and with deer season approaching I do not have the time either. 220,000 miles.
It does have many parts that will transplant into a new engine: Timing belt kit, water pump, tensioner and pulleys. I also put a new Luc clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and throw-out bearing on it. New NAPA starter. New radiator. New valve cover gaskets and spark plugs. All of these parts have less than a mile on them. I have literally driven it around the block and that is it. The clutch felt really good. I also have a brand new in the box clutch slave that I didn't put on because mine wasn't leaking like I thought. I also have the original engine and a box load of spare parts, including power steering pump and wiring harness for an automatic tranny. Plus the original engine if wanted.
The truck is in pretty good shape. it does have some rust on the left rear wheel opening but still fixable. Small amount of rust on the liftgate. A few small dents, one at the right front turn signal, one at the right rear turn signal. The antenna is broken and the windshield will need replaced as it is cracked. The muffler needs replaced. The brake light stays on for some reason but brakes seem fine. Could be the parking brake but I haven't looked at it.
It has a nice Kenwood stereo that is wired for a sub in the back. Interior is really clean. Everything works as far as I can tell. AC did blow cold when I used it with the old engine. BF Goodrich Tires are pretty good. The frame has minimal rust from what I can see, it's really clean for 21 years old. The driveshaft has a sticker on it from a local shop so I think the U-Joints have been serviced. I even have 3 quarts of Red Line synthetic transmission fluid I was going to use.
This truck will need put on a trailer or flatbed. The only way it will run at all is if I drain the radiator and obviously it's not going very far that way. There is antifreeze in the oil. But I think it could be tested for a very short drive. MAKE OFFER. It is titled and tagged but I am waiting on the title from the state. Should be here by the end of the week.
