Browning 12 Gauge Auto-5 "Humpback" Semi-Automatic Shotgun
CONDITION: An attractive used gun in very good shape! It's had a few minor bumps over the years, and the metal finish is getting a bit thin from wear, but it looks pretty nice for its age. This is a sound weapon that has been well-maintained in a private collection.

HISTORY: The Browning Automatic 5, or simply A-5, is an American Classic, easily the most important and influential shotgun ever made.
Its easily recognizable shape, with a high rear end, earned it the nickname "humpback". Designed by John Browning in 1898, the Auto-5 was the first semi-automatic shotgun, and it captured the hearts of sportsmen for the next century. John Wayne used a humpback, as did John Dillinger.
Browning's popular A-5 was an auto-loader that held five 12-gauge shells, four in the magazine and one in the chamber, hence the name Auto-5. “Five shots under your finger,” read the advertising. Its revolutionary design used the energy of recoil to eject the spent casing, re-cock the hammer, and load a fresh shell from the magazine. The action mechanism ran straight back from the barrel before cutting down sharply towards the buttstock, giving it its distinct humpback profile.
