Some Reasons to Choose Irish Blacks and Irish Reds:

1.  Genetic Purity: The Irish Black Breed has over four decades of closed book line-breeding behind it, creating a very compact and consequential gene pool. All registered animals are DNA tested in order to guarantee parentage, ensuring that the breed remains 100% pure.  The consistency and true heterosis produced will be noticeable.

2.  Genetic Concentration: Genetic consistency ensures the ability of Irish Blacks® and Irish Reds® to transmit desirable genetic performance traits to their offspring.  Consistency is a rarity today with the mongrelization of many breeds.  Aberdeen Angus (once the smallest breed) is now officially the largest breed in America.  This has occurred by interbreeding with the Continentals, and diluting the original gene pool.  Consequently, quality and consistency in offspring can be compromised.

3.  Fertility: Mature, 18-month and older bulls are capable of breeding 50-75+ females in 45 days. Our bulls will breed longer than most bulls due to proper development and lack of residual scrotal (and other) fat.  The results of today’s “normal” high protein bull development and consequent acidosis are absent.  Our bulls will normally gain weight during breeding season.  Their energy and bred in libido will produce a lot of “travel” and they cover more animals over more area.  The high quality and quantity of semen is noticeable when compared to other breeds.  Morphology for mature bulls at 18+ mos of age is generally between 90-98%. Motility is excellent.  Opacity will be high (Indicator of concentration).  Concentration can be as high as 2500 Mil. per ML.

4.  Carcass Quality: Irish Blacks consistently score extremely high for carcass genetics, particularly in tenderness and marbling. Ultrasound data confirms consistent real world performance, and the hot performance on the rail is excellent.

5.  Marketing Flexibility: Increase profit in each niche of the cattle industry. From cow/calf, backgrounding or finishing on grain or grass. These cattle will help increase your profits no matter what operation you are in.  Their genetic prepotency will see to it.

6.  Environmental Flexibility: Cattle have been successful in every production environment in the United States and Canada. Our herd is truly “High Altitude” year around and we are a PAP tested herd - Strong hearts and no brisket problems.  Every bull can be sent out with a full PAP test if requested.  They have the hair to withstand the coldest of winters, but the ability to slick off to reflect and handle the heat.
