Vintage Occupied Japan Figurine Young Girl with Basket
Occupied Japan figurines have a charm all their own. This sweet little lady looks like she's been spending some time in the flower garden -- she clutches a rose in her left hand. As an addition to your shelf or nightstand, her next task is to charm you!
The Occupied Japan mark dates the figurine to the 1940s or '50s. This would place it during the time period when Japan was occupied by the Allied contingent following World War II. Items made for export between 1945 and 1952 were required to be marked "Occupied Japan" or "Made in Occupied Japan." Japan turned millions of decorative items for export. Occupied Japan pieces often have slap-dash paint jobs or other manufacturer's flaws.
This cute figurine is 3 tall; the base is about 1-1/4" in diameter. She is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks; I don't even see signs of crazing, which is common in these vintage pieces. The paint is under the glaze, so there is no color wear, but there are a few tiny spots around the hem of her yellow apron where they missed with the paint during the manufacturing process. On the bottom of the figurine, it looks like someone has removed something that was stuck to the bottom, perhaps cushioning of some sort to prevent the figurine from scratching a wood surface. Residue remains, but this red mark can be seen:

OCCUPIED
JAPAN
This sweet girl would make the perfect gift for yourself, a friend, or a secret sister!
